Working creatively
"Often the hands know how to solve a riddle with which the intellect has wrestled in vain"
C.G.Jung
When words are not enough to express everything you want to share, or you simply need a break from an issue spinning round in your mind, it can be relaxing and more liberating to take a piece of clay and make a 3D shape, to draw a messy colourful image on paper to show muddled feelings, to take symbolic objects and place them in a sand tray to help make sense of an issue that is leaving you feeling depressed or disempowered.
Working creatively is about connecting to your own self expression, gaining autonomy and bringing in your own dynamic way of being in the world. So bring your curiosity to the session and see what you can create!
Among the supportive techniques that I use are:
-
Sand tray – facing a few inner demons symbolically
-
Collage – expressing muddled thoughts
-
Puppets – conversation between two conflicting sides, taking a gestalt approach with adults and children
-
Art – using colour and shape to connect deeper to feelings and allow change to flow more easily.
-
Visualisation – journeying through the imagination to meet different aspects of ourselves.
-
Clay - creating a 3D model of what we want to manifest in the future
-
Art - drawing images from dreams to give them form.
-
Ceremony – creating a ritual to release old thoughts that no longer help and welcome in new ways of thinking
